In a recent series of inspections targeting delivery motorcycles across Dubai, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has issued more than 1,200 fines for violations related to safety and technical standards. The inspections, conducted in high-activity areas such as Hessa Street, Za’abeel Street, Jumeirah Street, Downtown, Mirdif, and Motor City, were part of a broader initiative to ensure compliance with road safety regulations for delivery services in the city.
Penalties and Violations
The penalties were primarily issued for the following violations:
- Unsafe driving
- Failure to wear protective gear such as helmets, gloves, reflective vests, and knee and elbow guards
- Using motorcycles that do not meet technical standards
Additionally, the RTA impounded 77 delivery motorcycles for being unfit for use or for having expired insurance and registration. Among these were 44 motorcycles that were deemed unfit for operation, and 33 electric bikes that were seized for lacking the necessary permits to operate on the road.
Inspection Campaigns and Safety Awareness
The extensive campaign involved over 11,000 inspections of delivery drivers, vehicles, and facilities. Saeed Al Ramsi, Director of Licensing Activities Monitoring at RTA’s Licensing Agency, shared that the goal was to enhance safety and ensure compliance with public safety standards. “Common infractions included failure to comply with public safety requirements, reckless driving, and using motorcycles that did not meet approved technical standards,” Al Ramsi said.
In addition to the fines and impounds, the RTA organized awareness workshops and safety campaigns, targeting over 3,600 delivery drivers. These initiatives focused on promoting adherence to motorcycle safety requirements and addressing challenges faced by delivery drivers during their daily operations. The workshops also proposed practical solutions to improve the drivers’ efficiency and overall road safety.
RTA’s Commitment to Safety and Compliance
Aligned with its vision to be the World Leader in Seamless and Sustainable Mobility, the RTA remains committed to ensuring the safety of both delivery drivers and other road users. Through continued inspection campaigns, safety awareness workshops, and the issuance of necessary guidelines, the RTA aims to streamline delivery operations while prioritizing safety and compliance with road regulations.
This proactive approach underscores the importance of safety in Dubai’s growing delivery sector, with the RTA taking decisive steps to protect workers and residents alike.
